Local Unit Officer Duties

PRESIDENT:

Elected by local unit according to local unit bylaws.
Presides at all meetings of the association.
Presides at all meetings of the Executive Committee.
Coordinates work of officers.
Helps to prepare future leaders of the PTA.
Appoints members of special committees if bylaws so provide.
Attends all meetings called by council
Attends to all business (orders, letters, etc.)
Maintains good working conditions between parents, teachers, community and school.
Is well versed in and uses parliamentary procedure in all meetings.
Shall serve ex-officio on all committees except the Nominating Committee.

VICE PRESIDENT:

Acts as an aide to the president.
Acts in place of the president in their absence.
Represents the association and the president at meetings when requested.

SECRETARY:

Maintains an accurate record of the minutes of all meetings.
Maintains record of PTA membership within the local unit.
Calls meetings to order in the absence of the president and vice president unless bylaws specify otherwise.
Conducts correspondence of the association.
Furnishes delegates with credentials.
Works closely with president on “order of business” before meetings.
Notifies officers, committee members, and delegates of their election to office.
Sends out notices of Executive Committee meetings and of general meetings other than those announced.
Is responsible for notifying the State PTA Office of newly elected officers.

TREASURER:

Authorized custodian of all funds for the association.
Shall keep an accurate account of all receipts and expenditures.
Shall present a financial statement at all meetings.
Shall be responsible for compiling and presenting a budget to the association annually.
Is responsible for transferring membership dues to the Tennessee PTA Office at the designated time.
Works with the secretary and Membership Chairman to keep accurate membership records.
Shall have the books/records audited at the end of each year and submit a audit report to the Tennessee PTA Office
